When Safety goes Green
To celebrate 1 year RIDDOR free in December, which was accomplished by everyone working together to create a safe working environment, we wanted to say
Unipart has committed to achieving Net Zero by 2040, and Samuel James Engineering has an important part to play in achieving that goal. We understand that sustainability is more than just a goal – it’s a fundamental part of who we are and what we do.
As a leading provider of rail power solutions, Samuel James Engineering is dedicated to reducing our environmental impact and helping our customers achieve their sustainability objectives too. Our mission is to drive the future of railway transportation through innovative and eco-friendly power solutions that foster a greener, more sustainable world.
The Solar Power Control Cabinet (SPCC) is an innovative solution designed to provide a cost-effective, local regenerative power source for low power applications such as User Worked Level Crossings and lighting. Developed in response to a challenge from Network Rail, the SPCC addresses the need for carbon reduction and economical power infrastructure solutions for remote sites.
Solar power harvesting
50W load at 24Vdc
530aH battery bank with storage of up to 12.7kWh
9 day power supply
Methanol Power Cell backup
Remote condition monitoring
Small wind turbine back up
The Solar Power Control Cabinet (SPCC) offers significant environmental benefits by harnessing solar energy to power low-demand applications. This reduces reliance on fossil fuels, lowering carbon emissions and promoting sustainability. The SPCC exemplifies a green, cost-effective solution for renewable energy in railway operations.
Our innovative points heating solution that addresses the inefficiencies of traditional conducted heat systems used by Network Rail. Instead of relying on conductive heating, this new system utilises advanced induction technology, significantly reducing power consumption and emissions while enhancing reliability and operational efficiency.
This solution supports national and international infrastructure decarbonisation efforts, aligning with Network Rail’s strategy focused on Carbon, Cost, Capacity, and Customer impact.
Inductive Points Heating reduces environmental impact by significantly lowering power consumption and CO2 emissions, supporting decarbonisation efforts and contributes to a greener rail infrastructure.
Designed to meet the growing demand for electric vehicle charging infrastructure, our EV charging cabinets offer reliable, fast, and efficient power delivery, supporting various EV models. Engineered for easy installation and robust performance, our cabinets ensure optimal functionality in both urban and rural settings, providing seamless integration with existing power grids and renewable energy sources.
By facilitating the adoption of electric vehicles, our solution significantly reduces greenhouse gas emissions and reliance on fossil fuels. Additionally, the cabinet’s energy-efficient design and compatibility with renewable energy sources such as solar and wind power further enhance its environmental benefits, contributing to a cleaner, greener future for all.
Eco Insight is an invaluable asset in helping companies reach their sustainability goals while reducing costs. The Eco Insight software provides real-time energy and carbon data across multiple utilities and energy inputs in a single dashboard. This makes it easy to identify inefficiencies and areas for improvement. Operational data from different sources can be integrated, providing new insights into where energy savings can be made.
Sensors are added to the areas of measurement, e.g water, electricity, gas. Each sensor then feeds operational data to Eco Insight. Baseline targets are set and Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) goals are uploaded.
The dashboard highlights areas of interest and creates custom reports. Alerts are received for over-consumption and when nearing a set target. Eco Insight’s algorithms produce visualisations and reports.
Action can then be taken based on the information received.
Eco Insight allows for the accurate calculation of a business’ carbon footprint, based on actual energy consumption and emissions. This helps to identify opportunities to reduce carbon emissions across the business operation.
